Genevieve Rowles

In 1989, Genevieve was living in Salt Lake City, hiking the Wasatch Mountains, reviewing restaurants for magazines and writing travel articles. Her curiosity was piqued upon noting that Idaho was bout to celebrate its statehood centennial. So up she went, on that first trip running the gnarly South Fork of the Payette River, exploring portions of the Main Salmon and Hells Canyon, and generally getting acquainted. The following year, The Salt Lake Tribune published her Idaho Centennial story describing the little-recognized delights of Utah's neighbor to the north. From then on, numerous magazines and newspapers published her stories, which included details on river-running, B&Bs, exploring gold mines, jetboating into Hells Canyon, hiking the backcountry and mucking for garnets.
