History Of Hunter Publishing

Founded by Michael Hunter in 1985, Hunter Publishing began as a
publisher of guides to unusual destinations, places for which little
in-depth information was available. Often they were the only resource
available to travelers.
Today, the aim of providing readers with unusual travel books persists,
with books like The Argentina Travel Companion and award-winning
Adventure Guide to the Yucatan. But Hunter has
also expanded its horizons and now produces a comprehensive range of
travel guides to the Caribbean, the U.S., Europe, South America and the
far reaches of the globe.
The Adventure Guides, Hunter's signature series, is rapidly carving out
a niche on the bookshelves. Started 15 years ago, just as the company
was forming, the series encourages travelers to be active in exploring
their destination, whether on foot, by jeep, in a boat or on horseback!
The series now has over 30 titles and is growing rapidly! Another
successful line is our Alive series, which leads the traveler to the
very best restaurants and resorts, also covering beaches, historical
sites and more. The Alive Guides often cover destinations that are
popular but seldom dealt with in other guidebooks, such as Buenos Aires,
Aruba, Bonaire & Curaçao, Martinique & Guadeloupe or St. Martin & St.
Barts. Recently, Hunter became the exclusive US distributor of the highly
acclaimed Hunter-Rivages Hotels Guides, a unique series of books produced in
Europe. The books offer detailed profiles of the most remarkable hotels and
B&Bs in Europe, many shown in fabulous color photographs. The Nelles series
of guidebooks covers unusual destinations, such as Croatia, Moscow, Tanzania
and Morocco, as well as more familiar places (Costa Rica, Florida, Sweden
and more). While Nelles guides focus on culture and history, they also
offer sightseeing and general travel information. At just $15.95 and packed with
color photos and maps, they're an unbeatable value!
Hunter prides itself on the accurate, useful and highly detailed
information its travel guides offer. But there's always room for
improvement.
We welcome and appreciate feedback from our readers, and are always
seeking ways to improve our books and service. If you have any
